XTS5K digital mode progrmaming

Is there anyway to program the top concentric switch (the one with the 0 and 0 with a / thru it) or any switch that can be programmed to turn digital voice on and off per channel???

Right now I have to have the channels of analog in one bank and then the same channels with digital in another bank.

Now since we have set channel lists and we can not put a digital and analog next to one of the same channel we want to see if it is possible. I mean you can do it with encryption why not digital voice.

No, you can't toggle TX type with the concentric. Unfortunately.

Good question but I have to ask what sort of scenario would you use that.
Is it in an interoprability type situation?
I'm just curious

Yep.

Thales gear can do it.

The Astro Spectra Railroad radio is the only Moto radio that I am aware of that has that capability.

The LT for the county who is in charge of comms has told people that digital works better in some areas where an analog signal was somewhat hard to hear.

So some people just switch it into DV and go from there. However, we have found out that some agencies do not have there radio programmed with mixed mode RX therefore you can call them until you are blue in the face and not get a response.

Lately dispatch has done some relaying but they are getting tired of it, so we thought that this might just work better if there was a way to turn it on and off per channel.

As for programming the channels next to one another in DV and ang that will not work as the agency I am on works between two counties. One county moving to DV and the other staying on good ole analog.

We have talked about trying to get everyone to get there radios programmed mixed mode. However, one of the main reasons everyone is being pushed towards DV is due to the high amount of interference on analog (which ha ha they are also getting on DV from a repeater that has the same output as our input.)

Anyways thanks to everyone who responded and I guess we will have to go from there.

Am probablly just reapeating the same thing cause my mind is not totally here today lol.. but..... I remember having a mixed mode channel with TX as analong only along with encryption as selector usuable..

So when you wanted to TX in digital just turn on the encryption on... but dosen't solve the issue of just only TX in plain astro only as you mention... but it was a great way for us to save time and personality space.

The best way to do this -

Configure 3 zones.

Assign the ABC switch to be a zone selector.

A - Digital Zone (16 channels)
B - talkaround zone maybe?
C- Analog Zone (16 Channels)

The reason for keeping the two zones on a/c is because it's easier for the user to swing the switch in one direction, and then back the other. Sometimes hitting that sweet "b" spot is more of a pain in the ass than useful. (note, I don't mean the talkaround/direct "feature" I mean actually making a channel bank of 16 channels taht would be equivilient to your talk around channels if selected).

This is of course providing you don't have users that are currently using the switch for other functions, and requires a bit more programming on your end.

Just a thought.

I realize that it makes more sense to make the "A" switch analog after posting. Either way - it's an example, but a thought.

If you were using astro sabers the a/b switch can do the zone change as well between zones 1/2, and works well.

Not having easy access to a 5K (hey- the holidays are coming...) can you assign the concentric switch to zone select on a 5K?

I know that on the AS you can set both positions to zone select. Doing so causes one position to bring up zone 1 and the other zone 2. Coupled with the idea of two identical zones with analog TX on one, and digital TX on the other, it should acheive the original poster's goal.

I have to say why don't you set up a permanant patch?
We used these while migrating departments to digital then when all done switch of the patch.

Can not put in a patch when it it the same freq just when people get on the southern end they are told by the county moron (sorry Lt) tp use digital and on the northern for now they can use analog.

Not to worry I will try the programming methods listed here and go from there.

Once again thanks for everyones help.

I took the advice of the programming listed above however I am having some trouble programming up the radio and the switchs.

1.) Is there a way to program just position C on the A-B-C switch to do a zone where B will be blank, and A would be keypad lock???

2.) If the above will not work can you program the concentric switch so that O w/line is one bank, and the O is like open or free roam bank???

As stated in my other posts we use many banks between counties so I am still trying to find a solution.

Thanks in advance.

no!
You can make it various functions but if one is a zone , all three positions must be a zone.

Foregoing is correct: if you use A-B-C for zone, then A is always Zone 1, B is always Zone 2 and C is always Zone 3.

An interesting note: while for most features of these radios, you may not duplicate a feature on both a switch and a menu, this does not apply to zone selection. That is, you can use the A-B-C switch to access (quickly) Zones 1 through 3 while still using the menu to access further (presumably less frequently employed) zones.
