Trying to find it on MOL is coming up nothing. Does anyone have an MOL part number?

If it helps, I'm gonna be using is on ham freqs.

You may be out of luck trying to find a full length quarterwave mobile in the M catalog. Seems like now everybody wants physically small, so the base loaded quarterwaves have taken over the market. PCTEL/Maxrad still makes one, 30-54 Mhz, full length stainless steel, chrome plated ball base, etc., Tessco SKU 462098. But be prepared to pay for it...list is $138.05. Of course, there are cheaper knockoffs available from other places, but I assumed you wanted good quality and that's why you were looking at Motorola.
Seems like fullwave quarter wave mobile ants went out with the Mocom 70 stuff. If you're willing to look at something used, try your local hamfest...be lots cheaper than a new Maxrad.

Yeah, I've seen them used, but they are usually cracked/dry-rotted.

I may have to stick with the base loaded NMO style. It's going on a pick-up and I wanted to keep the VHF high antenna seperate from the low band, but that may be out now...

I have a Motorola branded ball mount here. I also have a Hustler SSM-1 (ball and spring sold together) that aside from not being stamped "Motorola" on the insulator, appears absolutely identical to the M mount. I'd be willing to bet they came from the same factory. And the Hustler has held up just as the M ball has.

As for the stainless whip, that's more problematic. You may be able to buy just the mounting ferrule from M, but I don't know. The cheaper whips have the mounting threads welded on, so the only way to trim the whip is from the top. With the mounting ferrule you can trim the bottom and set the whip with a set-screw. I consider that a much better arrangment. I have one mounting ferrule but no idea where I got it. I'm thinking it came with the M ball I got from fleapay. I now use the ferrule I have on TOP of a whip and screw my Hustler HF resonators to the whip that way.

Be careful about cheap balls (heh heh.) Many of them don't have teeth on the ball to bite into the plastic to keep the whip upright. That nut is big, but not THAT big. Even with my Hustler HF antenna on it, mine stays upright.

Check out the Hustler ball and decide for yourself. But I'd sure go that way before spending $138 on M.

I'm able to pull it up in MOL too. Is this just for the ball mount, or the whole kit 'n caboodle? (ball, whip, mounting hardware, etc.)

The complete kit. mount, spring, whip & whip adaptor, coax......

Correction, that is less whip.

FYI, the PCTEL Maxrad antenna is the triangular shaped base.

I keep debating the whole base load vs 1/4 wave ball mount for my ride, and I still can't make up my mind!

If Motorola would get off of their butts and change my MOL account, I'd go ahead and get one. I called them Tuesday. Think I'll call them back today. Can't wait to get that Orion.
