I have seen a few do that, usually it is due to an eeprom error(wrong model or 8k in a 2k radio). Try reprogramming the radio and see what it does. These radios also do that when you hold down the menu, select. enter keys at power up to put the radio into programming mode.

Hope that helps

Hi guys,

One more thing. The model # is missing, is there anyway I can find it out by looking at parts inside. (or at least what kind of radio it is? (I know its vhf))

Thanx

That's exactly the same problem I have too.

My latest e-bay purchases have been a mess. I bought a Saber III 440-470 MHz coverage (seller claimed) and I found it to cover a completely different bandsplit. Thanks to some very helpful information from Elroy Jetson I was able to decipher the radios frequency range. The radio was in great shape pyhsically and I was mainly interested in the case and display for my project but this was a disappointment. The indentifier label was missing(new casing)and the radio was mis-programmed !! with the incorrect bandsplit.

There are several frequency sensitive modules inside and getting the numbers off of some of them require removal. Your modules prefixes should start with NLD since you are dealing with a VHF unit. The UHF module prefixes begin with NLE.

List your modules on the board here and maybe someone can help you out. I also am dealing with another mystery e-bay VHF Saber 1 and need help as well with identifying some of my module bandsplits.

Here they are: NLD 8210A(PLL/VCO),NLD8180A(Hybrid),NLD8122A(PA), and there are two other which I am unsure what they are called but the #'s are NFD6132A and NFD6122A.

I broke down two sabers this weekend all the way to the frame for a conversion so I am getting familiar with these. My VHF Saber III is assembled but does operate into the 2M Ham Band succesfully yet. I suspect the bandsplit is too high to accommodate this lower range. Feedback on the part numbers above should confirm this.

Any info. on a source for just the modules on these would be most helpful.

And by the way I really dislike those two-part knobs that Motorola uses on the Saber. Swapping these was the most time consuming ordeal I experienced! One of the inserts ending up splitting due to old age and brittle plastic.

Thanks for all the help out there!
