I was just wondering is the Astro Spectra and XTL5000 the only APCO25 mobiles that Motorola offers or are there others?

XTL1500 and XTL2500 are available as well in a P25 format.

The 1500 doesn't have a remote head feature and is 48 channel out
of the box. A 255 channel upgrade is available (option G966).

And, of course, the semi-bastard/destined-to-be-a-Saber-SI Astro Spectra Plus.

AFAIK, the PM1500 can do it right now... it just turns the radio into an XTS1500.

Do you have any documentation to support this? The XTL1500 is a 45 or 50 watt radio, the PM1500 is a 100 watt radio.

At least Motorola admits it's a possibility with the PM1500, unlike the complete denial (until recently) of the MT1500. It would only make sense that it will be available at some point, as it's the mobile equivalent of the PR1500.

On the handheld side, would it be the Astro Sabers and XTS's with proper flashcode?

Also, couldn't a MTS2000 or MCS2000 do it if it had the proper flashcode?

yes, and the pr1500 will have a flash available one day as well. scheduled release on that was 3q06, so i guess it will come when it is ready. wavetar also said he was told at the roadshow in orlando that the mt1500 was going to be flashport upgradable to imbe, but i don't think he was sober enough to catch the release date (if one was even available, which is doubtful at best)

Hey now...I was sober...just really hung over! If I'd have been still drunk, I wouldn't have had the headache! But yes, I didn't think to ask for the release date, as they implied it was now available.

How about the Kenwood TK-5710 VHF, 50 & 110 w models,
TK-5810 UHF 50 & 100 watt models

I didn't think about other brands. I thought APCO 25 was motorola proprietery (spelling?)

I got a PM1500 4 weeks ago 100W UHF.
I just paid $540 and had it flashed for P25 and it works great.
I should have went with the High power XTS2500 UHF
Would have turned out to be around the same price LOL

So this is going to be my first time programming APCO25 channels into an Astro Spectra. Is there anything special besides just plugging the channel in? Do I need to select anything in options to let it know it is an APCO25 channel? I haven't got the radio yet so I haven't had a chance to look at the codeplug.

Some channels will be analog, which I transmit on for fire/ems, but the APCO25 channels will be recieve and since I have never programmed them, I was looking for some pointers.

This is for CPS...

To make a personality P25, you need to go to the "Rx Options" tab (under 'Conventional personalities') and set it to either "Mixed Mode" or "ASTRO". Then you can go to the "Tx Options" tab and make it "ASTRO" [you have to set the Rx first, then it will let you change the Tx - default is "Non-ASTRO" or analog]
The bandwidth setting (12.5 kHz or 25 kHz) will affect ONLY the receiver's analog operation (assuming you set "Mixed Mode")

Then you go into the ASTRO tabs and set NAC, etc. Note that if you set "Digital CSQ" it will force the NACs to 293. You will also want to set up at least one ASTRO System (tho the default will work) under the ASTRO section.

My advice is to download your radio, then make a couple copies of the CP and "fool around" with one - it won't let you save a file if it has errors in it, so that's a good way to check yourself. Incidentally, you can name the codeplug files anything you want - you are not restricted to the serial number.

Can you do P25 on an XTS3000 or would you have to go up to a 5000?

An XTS 3000 is capable of conventional and Type II trunked P25 operation, if appropriately flashed, and with appropriate firmware.

It can do 9600bps P25 trunking if the HOST firmware is R06.xx.xx.

Sounds easy enough. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. I am sure I will have a few more questions, but that should get me started.

Ok, programmed it up like was mentioned, but I thought Astro was supposed to be real clear. It sounds like someone is talking in a can. Maybe I am just not used to how digital is supposed to sound. It just sounds weird.
