Programming questions on Spectra 800-mhz Trunking radio

Post by SpectraBob »

I've got a 45-watt Spectra 800-mhz trunking radio, that I wanted to use as a receive-only monitor for our local Fire and Police departments, which are on a Type-2 trunking system. When I go in to make programming changes using my RSS, there are many parameters that are "view only", including all of the control frequencies. It is also currently programmed as a Type-1 system, which needs to be changed in programming to a Type-2.

I also need to be able to go in and change the control frequencies to match the ones assigned to our local police and fire trunked system, but with so much of the parameters being "view only", I am beginning to think this is a lost cause on my part.

My software documentation refers to "code keys" and the like, being needed to overide such "view only" parameters, in order to then effect the needed changes. Are there any tricks or back-door workarounds, to get around this restriction, so that I can make these changes that I need, to reprogram this radio to meet my needs? Or, did I waste my money buying this thing on eBay?

have your system administrator program the radio for you, if your authorized to be on the system they will do it for you. if not get a scanner, it'll work fine for recieve only.

Or, if you're sick and tired of people who are too quick to say "buy a scanner", instead of actually help; do some searching around and reading on the boards. You're going to need what's called a System Key. Once you get that, you can change whatever you like.

And once you get that and program your radio on a sys you have no business being on.... you can cry the blues about being unfairly prosecuted. This has been covered way too many times.

Or you could just make your own system key. Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, the info is posted on the main site.

Simple HEX Key........

Just beware that this is not lregal to do and you could possibly face prosecution. With that said. Enjoy, have fun......... Only about 1000 other board members have done this......
