OT: Anyone take the CET recently?

I have been studying for my CET that I am being required to take in January...

I have been using ETA's study exam, and also a program our shops gave us that splits it into sections and stuff...

does anyone have any tips, or study hints to help me ace this test...

seems like memorizing formulas and remembering MOSFET modes are my weakest link.....gates and osc diagrams are a breeze...

any idea?

Just took the CET, along with the USMSS/FCC GROL test on Tuesday. I can't reveal much, just know your basic Ohm's Law, power, inductance and other calculations and the training that you already have and you'll be fine. The ETA study guide is very good. Look out for trick questions and questions with more than one right answer, in which one is more right than the other.

I took the CET MANY years ago And hold a 3 digit reg number
(300 something) issued in Ohio. If tests now like they were then it was a
very practical experience test. Of course that was I guess
somewhere in mid 70's. ISCET had only been in existance
for about 6 months and the tv repair shop I worked for
had an owner that wanted to always have an edge and wanted
to claim he had only CET's working for him. I saw a study guide
a year or so ago and as Tony stated previously, a solid electronics
math understanding and you will have no problem with it.
Good luck and hope we can call you a fellow ISCET member soon.

You can share all you want about the GROL, all of the possible questions are in the public domain

Boy the CET brings back some HS memories. I took mine when
I was around 17 and also working in the TV repair shop.

I can admit that it was not an easy test by any means
but the details escape me as it was 25 years ago.
I do still have the certificate on the wall along with
the triangle CET patch that was given along with.
It shares space with my GROL, Motorola and Harris
certificates, just to name a few. 8)

Good luck with the exam and sorry that I can't offer
any real-time experience.

I took the exam about 2 months ago. After getting the FCC 1st 35 years ago and later the GROL and all the while working full time in this business, I felt a little bothered to have to go take another test to prove I know what I"m doing. But it is done now and hanging on the wall. Like Tony said above, know the basics and you shouldn't have too much trouble. I'm not saying it is a breeze, it will make you think. But you don't have to "ace" it. 75% is all it takes. So they throw you a curve and you miss it, that doesn't mean you fail. Good luck.
