How to get actual XTS5K CPS?

Post by radio-link »

Hi!

No, it is not as it seems :) No violation of board rules, I want the "official thing".

I want to buy the actual CPS for the XTS5000 radios. The problem is, I live in Germany. When I ask Motorola, they tell me "ask your dealer". When I ask the dealer, they call Motorola, and Motorola says, "Product is not sold and not supported in Germany". Period. :-(

Now the issue is, a good friend runs a small company in the security business, very "special" jobs. He has a bunch of XTS5K in use, together with some 05.xx CPS version. Now he has got some additional radios from a company that closed, and another radio came back from repair, and they all have in common, that the CPS is too old for them. The whole thing is not urgent, but until summer the radios must get reprogrammed.

Now, what can we do? Can I order the CPS from a US dealer, must it be ordered directly from Mot in the US? Would it be better to let our US dependancy order the stuff to their address? Must they go through Mot, or can they buy at the next authorised Mot dealer? What is the part number of the latest CPS? Maybe with the P/N even ordering it here in Germany could work...

Assuming with some help from this forum things sort out and we are able to legally buy the CPS, there is a second level in this adventure :)

It would be at least useful for those radios that often get reprogrammed for international projects that they are on the same firmware level, to allow cloning codeplugs. What do I need to buy to make firmware upgrades myself. As far as I understand I buy the flash licenses, get them on an iButton, so I need an iButton adapter. What else? Is the normal programming cable enough?

Very helpful would be som hint about the part numbers for CPS and maybe the flashgrade stuff (licenses for about five radios), and some service manual.

Btw., sending the radios somewhere to service is not an option; all radios under no circumstances can not be sent away, and one by one would be a hassle, especially when they go to the US or somewhere else far away.

Any serious help is very welcome!
regards - Ralph, dk5ras

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

you're caught in a catch 22, that xts isn't supposed to be in your country that's why motorola won't sell you the cps. even here they won't sell us the cps for overseas radios. but we can not go to the local motorola dealer and order any cps, you have to deal with motorola directly just as you did when you called them. if you have somebody here like a family member that's willing to take a chance and fill out the application for it and purchase it then that would probablly be your best chance if you can't ship them here.

I was caught in the same catch 22 as you a few years ago. I was in Spain at the time. Long story short, they eventually sold it to me, but as soon as I moved back to the States, they pulled it from my MOL account (about a year early). The last update that I got was version 8.

HAHA They also told me that I could purchase it again and I'd be all set. I asked them what was stopping them from pulling it from my account once I moved again (I move every three years). They couldn't answer me.

[edit] I can say for a fact that Motorola in the US did NOT help me get the CPS at all. I had to go through a dealer in Madrid and they purchased it through Motorola International (or something like that). I got two hard disks from Madrid and then the updates quit coming. Once I showed Motorola in the States my original reciept, they added it to my MOL account and I was able to get the updates that way, but it was a PITA every time a new version was released.

My problem was that I did not speak Spanish and that was the biggest hurdle to overcome.

Do you have an MOL account already?

OK, I see, seems to be a common problem. No, to my knowledge I do not have an account, tried to open one, but seems that it did not work, maybe I just did smth. wrong, who knows? In Germany anyway it is not that easy to get this account, I am afraid. On the other hand, in Germany it is no problem at all to buy the official CPS from a Motorola dealer - did this for several times, but only CPS for products on the German market.

I've found the same thing here too (Australia.)

MOL is basically a North America specific service. The dealers I've dealt with here have never even heard about it MOL, except in "codeplug too new" CPS error messages, but they have access to a similar system.

The dealers here are also able to sell CPS.

Didn't quite understand that message because of the wording, are you saying Australian dealers have access to a download site to get updates to CPS? Or like nearly everything else we are screwed because we are in the "bottom side" of the world.
