New PR1500

Post by M4Gunner »

Hey everyone, New to the boards, but I've been lurking for a while. I just took the plunge and bought a new PR1500 for LEO work. It's a great radio! I'm having the dealer send it off to the depot for firmware upgrades, and then it will be programmed.

I have a couple of questions: With the firmware upgrades that it will be getting, will it have a visual indicator of scanning?

What other upgrades should I be looking at? My dept, or any other in the county is not going P25 yet, so I'm not going to go there just yet.

With only 16 CH being able to scan at a time, how do you recommend that I program the more than 25 channels that I want on this radio, and be able to most effectively utilize this radio?

Will the RMN5038A work and work well (with all the features) on this radio?

Thanks for your help! This board helped me make my decision to buy this radio!

Since its going to the Depot... Be ready for a loooong wait! Not saying it will happen, But its been known too... Also, make sure its the same radio internally as well, Because radios have come back as lower end models...

If you are sending this to factory via your local Motorola Dealer make sure they write the model number on the factory request sheet and also do not send any unrequired accessories.Just sent 5 PR1500 to Factory for QCII and P25 upgrades they came back missing antennas and one had a wrong battery. What the frick!
The model numbers for PR1500 have changed or are changin shortly due to changes to the radio itself.
Good luck!

I don't know what is changing about the radio, but I did contact Motorola about the scan indicator the other day and they stated that there was no visiual indication of the radio being in the scan mode, and that they are not working on a fix. Now that is what I was told, someone tomorrow might give you a different answer.

What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK

There are a lot of features lacking from "High-Tier" Moto gear.

Just to name a few:

No scan indication (on display-less radios)
No scanned channel discovery beep (on display-less radios)

On HT series radios (HT750) it's a feature.

High-Tier display radios make getting the information really easy.
