Ok, as I am sitting here going thru my email, I noticed my AS3 flashing at me non-stop, so I switch to PL Disable, and can hear static and in some positions, open/dead air, with a slight scratch every other secound.

Well I closed my lid and my computer went into hibernate and the static stopped.


also went thru all my other channels and only seems to do it on this specific ch.

any ideas what this might be from? and how to make it STOP!!!!!!!!!

Late Entry: I'm using a Dell Latitude CPx Windows 2000 PRO SP4 - 648mhz (think thats right)

The computer is generating a signal on 464.8 as
a part of its internal switching/operation. The only
thing you can do is to move the radio farther from
the computer. Happens all the time to everyone.

ahhh birdie frequencies! Gotta love them.

Yep, been there done that. You walk into my shack and its like a RF rich box, HT's can't stand that room, they go nuts on just about any band and frequency with all the stuff i have turned on in there. All the radios i have going in there on the other hand never skip a beat, why, because they don't have inside antennas!

Most of my computers do that around that frequency too.

I find it interesting to fire up a spectrum analyser next a computer, to see what it's pumping out.

With all the different frequencies being generated by computers, it's a wonder more troubles don't crop up...the LCD has a clock, the CPU has one, then the bus uses clock frequencies as well as software, DRAM and video.

They all use clock generated frequecies that are either primary or overtone/harmonic-related or divided up/down.

That's why Yaesu began placing a control in their menu structure for shifting the clock frequency if a birdy pops up on a specific channel/frequency.

There are days I wish computers were never invented!

A lot of these troubles stem from the lax shielding most have, so they radiate all that noise without many noticing, unlike 'us' that have equipment that suffers from unshielded or poorly shielded computers, notably class B and C garbage.

This is just like those NAP chassis TV sets.......

Try over-clocking OR under-clocking the laptop by 25-50Mhz - see if that moves the birdie to a different freq.
