Recommended console for Caprice?
What do the majority of you recommend as a console for a 97 Caprice Classic? It needs to fit the XTL (O5) Faceplate as well as the MaxTrac (but I see many companies selling the faceplate brackets). I'd rather there be as little holes to the floor of the car as possible. I'm new to consoles so bear with me. It will only need to hold 3 radios, if it matters.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Recommended console for Caprice?
Ray there is no 97 caprice. 96?? Is it bench seat or bucket seats? If its bucket You can use a no hole mount for a CV using the seat bolts. The only problem is getting 10+ year old bolts loose without snapping them. If you have a bench its a little tougher You may have to screw it in.
Drop me a PM Im about 15 min from you and We might have something used in the shop..

Ha ha, Ray Ray strikes again
Re: Recommended console for Caprice?
I believe it's a 96 then. Bucket seats. It's not a "for sure" that it will be my car, but it's damn close.

An 11-year-old Caprice? Ray, your priorities need to get straightened out. You should be worried less about XTS5000s... and more about a pimpin' ride with which to get teh wimmins.Rayjk110 wrote:I believe it's a 96 then. Bucket seats. Now, if you can get a pimpin' ride AND afford teh k5 astors as I did, that's a different matter. However, wimmins > radios.
Re: Recommended console for Caprice?
Atleast you're thinking about a durable car instead of the CV wacker-special What size engine? They had the 4.3 or 5.7 V8. Honestly, the 4.3 "L88" is not bad, still gave 200HP but won't win any speed metals in such a big car. Mine has the 350 (LT1) and is a good running engine after 182,000 miles. Those were hard miles as well, the PD's chiefs had it for 137K then I drove the hell out of it afterwards.
One thing I never did was install a console or even a radio, just too much to risk (damage wise) as I want to keep my rides looking as far away from a police car as possible.

You probably don't care, but a lot of B-body fans prefer the 94/95 for the ODB1 interface instead of the ODB2. The 95/96 did have the larger, higher side mirrors than my 94 has, those are mounting lower on the door, but I still love her.

Late reply, but Gamber-Johnson Crown Vic baseplates will fit a Caprice. Dunno 'bout the other manufacturers.. check their websites and browse around some. My personal preference is for Havis-Shields, but a Gamber may be your only option.
I had a '96 Caprice LT1 9C1 once. One fine day the oil pump quit and froze the engine up solid, and upon trying to restart the crankshaft snapped.

Ray, why are you looking at a ghetto sled? What's wrong with that Grand Prickz you have?
Do not make Sig angry...he'll just keep ringing the bell.

Yeah, I had a brain fart that day. Besides, I never had one with an engine that small before
I did get the L99 reference correct on hamsexy though

LOL! Yeah, snapping a crank will get your attention. So does having your engine puke it's guts out through the side of the oil pan. Humiliating to go back and pick up the pieces of the cooling jacket...motorola_otaku wrote: I had a '96 Caprice LT1 9C1 once. Re: Recommended console for Caprice?
Sell it. Don't buy it. It'll only cause you trouble. That's the last car in the world you need to put a radio in.007 wrote:Grog strikes again...it's "L99"Grog wrote: Honestly, the 4.3 "L88" is not bad

Go buy a shiny new Kia. It'll get you more @$$ than a Caprice will.
Re: Recommended console for Caprice?
Kia? Gross. The Caprice did infact sell before I had a chance to come up with the cash and/or loan, so I don't have it unfortunately. The Grand Prix is ok, it's just getting a little old (and with 162k+ miles, I might add)
