I hope this is not too OT but I will be visiting the area two weeks from now and I was wondering if there is any P25 ham repeaters in the area?

I think the closest thing to P25 in the Phoenix area is going to be D-STAR.

I haven't heard a peep about anything even remotely related to P25 in use by hams here aside from possibly radio to radio.

Check the area repeaters and inquire as to who, what, where and so on..

Funny to see there are LOTS of repeaters use 100.0 for PL tone.

How are the activity levels wise? There seems to be a ton of repeaters on V/U/900. I'm still deciding on which radio to bring with me.

I would bring a 2meter/440 ... 2 meter band is full. Almost no space left for a repeater.
UHF is very active. [talk in would be 146.940 repeater (162.2pl)] let us know if your going to be in Phoenix only, or going to other cities. 900Mhz. is active ...as is 220Mhz. Some crossband into UHF/220/900. have fun!!!!

There is a dual access PL 110.9 or P25 - NAC293 on Usery Mt.
448.725Mhz minus offset.

Also a 927.1625 / 902.1625 at Scottsdale Air Park-cross band to 441.625 tied to North Link.

There is also a 146.42MHz simplex remote base in Prescott linked to 29.6 FM and sometimes when the band is open it's channeled to other 10 meter repeaters or even cross banded to the 927.6125/ 6 meter remote base at the same location with a 151.4 Hz CTCSS.

P25 mode uses a NAC of F7E or open Digital carrier squelch.

This runs 70 watts into a dB-222 at 5800 feet elevation in the center of town with good coverage to Flag, Williams and some parts of Payson.

This one is sometimes running in analog only mode due to me being the only P25 user up here.

When in analog mode the input PL is 123 Hz.

At this time since the band is so dead and all other users have analog only radios it's operating analog only but if I can get more of the local hams tuned into P255 then I'll move it over to P25.

Thanks for the headsup on the NAC differences. I'll make sure I have both programmed before I head out next week!

I've got both programmed, but I noticed on the map it says the repeater is at Kingman, AZ (162 miles), while the other says at Usery Mountain (30 miles). So where is it?

By the way, I'll be staying West of Tempe just south of the airport next monday. Hopefully it won't be a RF dead spot for me!

As for the 448.725 listed It's not in Phx or it has the wrong PL and/or NACs listed.

I was down there all day yesterday and tried the published NACS and CTCSS codes and I then scanned it for ~4 hours with nothing heard.

So it must be an error, also I didn't hear any of the listed ARA D-star repeaters either.

448.725 is not yet operational with P25, however, the repeater is in the lab at Motorola and will be installed at Usery sometime in the next 30 - 45 days, we are only waiting for a new duplexer to arrive, the repeater has however been tested and worked great, get your Astro radios working!

If this comes up 2x's sorry, the new P25 Quantar for Usery is still not installed, it will be installed sometime in December or early January as the duplexer is still on order.

The repeater has been tested in the lab and works perfectly, the NAC is 293 and the PL is 110.9 so get your P25 Astro radios ready!

I just came back from Phoenix, amazing weather compared to NYC despite the rain earlier this week. Made a few contacts on repeater and have some good conversations with local hams. I just had my 70cm with all the repeaters below 447 programmed. There are activity, but not very active. Some of the repeaters located on South Mountain is definitely worth mentioning for their amazing coverage.

If your still in phoenix? take a drive up south mountain, Great View! bring some binoculars and a camera. have fun! watch out for the RF.....

I just flew out of sky harbor yesterday, Made a contact (weak) through Mt Lemon to a ham in Tucson. Nice propagation when you have many thousands of feet to work with. The White Tank VHF ham machine always impresses me. I've listened to it in Yuma and Quartzsite. Worked into it from as far west as Dateland with 5 watts and a 5/8 on the roof of the car.
