SM50 Ignition Sense

Hi all:
Tried to power on a reportedly good SM50 with bench power supply and she woon't power on. Suspect Ignition sense is enabled (is that enabled/disabled in the programming?). To power on at the bench is all that needs done is power added to pin #10 as well as the main POS/NEG dongle? Or does neg (black) also need applied to pin #8 GND? Any tips appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that the sm50 is like the m1225, there should be a jumper near the acc connector inside the radio that controls the ignition sense. All you should have to do if the jumper is cut is apply 12v to pin 10 as well as hooking up the main power/ ground leads.

Thank you for the info - you are correct there was a jumper there (and the board was marked "cut for Ignition Sense") - BUT interestingly the component (is it a cap?) wasn't cut; I did apply 12VDC to pin#10 along with the main POS/NEG power dongle and she fired right up - perhaps the component is bad, or perhaps there is a setting in RSS that allows programmed Ign. Sens. - in any case, appreciate the help, and Happy Holidays!

I believe its a fuse, thats what it is on the m1225, and they are similar. Someone probably hooked up an ign lead, then the radio powered the car ignition after the key was shut off, blowing the fuse. Thats a pretty common scenario.

Bingo - I think you're right on the money1 Thank you again... I am wondering that, in the absence of a repl. fuse (as long as it's not a resistor) if the component can just be bypassed with a straight jumper and the unit run without an ign. sens. accessory connection to the pinout..... I suppose that would compromise the unit protection, though, and wouldn't be a "certified" repair...

Correct. Another option would be placing a fuse between the accessory connector and your power source while running a jumper inside the radio. The generic Radius ignition sense kits use a 4amp blade fuse, although I cannot tell you if that is the same spec for the SM50.

Thank you for the details. Oddly, testing the unit with the jumper installed, the on/off knob doesn't work - the unit stays on whether the know is turned off or on... Don't know if that's related to the jumper...

I'm not sure in that one, I do know thats not how the 1225 works.
