can i convert gtx model M11WRD4CB1AN to ham bands? does it have the voice privacy? if so is it removable?

your link says they have programed that type of radio for ham use.
however http://n1su.com/900.html says "The 4th digit from the end, M11WRD4CB1AN, specifies whether the radio is equipped with Privacy Plus or other voice encryption options - none of which can be used on the Amateur bands." Are they saying that the radio is unable to work WITHOUT privacy plus? or are they confirming what i already know, that i am not allowed to use scrambling / encryption / whatever it is?

GTX radios, be they mobiles or portables, were made for
either LTR or Privacy Plus AS AN OPTION when you program
them. They all still do conventional FM on a least a few
channels, which is all you need for 900 mHz. You have to
edit the .MDF file in the RSS to get the radio to transmit
WITHIN the 902 to 927+ area. They were factory designed
to transmit UP to 902 and then starting at 927, leaving the
current hamband out of the radio's range.

Ok that clears everything up Thanks for the information
they dudes thats selling it sent me a picture of the unit.... however it does not look right to me. ( i doubt its on channel 888 ) all the lights and display is lit up. is this normal?

It has been a while, like a year, since I messed with M11
radios (I had two of them) but I think the display should run
its test mode and then go to a channel. The 888 should not
be on there. Perhaps one of our group can jump in and add
something to this. These radios are CHEAP these days, and
if you have any doubts you'd be better off to buy one that's
already been converted for 902-927 use; they're around but
you have to look for them. In any case you should try to get
a money-back agreement and not buy it "as is."

thanks guys for the replies the dude says that 888 goes away after 10 seconds so i guess its ok.

It shouldn't be that long. The normal GTX mobile power-cycle does that first for about 3/4 of a second, then the display says "tSt" for 2 or 3 seconds, then you get the self-check beep and the radio goes to normal operation.
