MW810 Product Information
Updated 4/9/2012
The MW810 is the latest release in the MW line of three piece computers. It features updated internal hardware and a more black/grey accent style. The following information is gathered from product manuals and marketing materials. As of 11/1/2011, there are three revisions of the MW810: 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2.
The MW810 verison 1.0 and 1.1 come standard with the following ports:
PC Card slot
2 USB 2.0 ports
1 10/1000 LAN port
One display port
1 9pin serial port
Internally there is one open CF Card slot and one PCI-E slot. Models that come with GSM or EVDO modems will contain a daughterboard that supports a GPS and another PCI-E slot along with an SIM card slot accessable from the front. Verison 1.2 removes the CF Card slot and replaces it with PCI-E slot (for a total of three if the WWAN/GPS board is present). The CF card offically supports a bootable flash disk. It is unknown if you can use other CF based cards with this slot.
Wireless Options
WIFI
Intel 4956AGN PCI-E card with two antenna ports brought to the rear of the unit for RX diversity.
DataTAC
The PRM240 is used as an internal option, provides 1.8 watts output. Most commonly used with an external data amp to boost power output. These modems are not known to be able to be reconfigured as easy as the VRM650 or work with unsupported applications. Freq range is 806-824 TX/851-869 RX.
Verizon/Sprint/AT&T
The unit supports the Sierra Wireless MC5725 (EVDO) and the MC8765 GSM/HSDPA/UTMS/EDGE/GPRS cards. Others may be supported due to the PCI-E interface, such as the GOBI modems.
Bluetooth
A Bluetooth v2.0 option is available. It is intergrated into the 12.1" display with an antenna under the top cover. Based on opening up non-Bluetooth displays, it can be added in the field.
Displays
There are four basic displays available:
8.4" SVGA 800NIT Touchscreen with two USB ports
12.1" XGA 400NIT Touchscreen with three USB ports
12.1" XGA 1200NIT Touchscreen with three USB ports
12.1" XGA 1200NIT Touchscreen with three USB ports and smartcard reader
GPS
GPS is available in two options. The most common is the Trimble iQ based unit, the second is a UBLOX dead recockoning GPS that uses a gyro unit internal to the CPU and input from the vehicle speed sensors. The UBLOX also supports DGPS along with a 16 channel receiver. The UBLOX performs very well in urban enviroments.
Expansion Boards
The MW810 is able to be upgraded at the time of purchase or aftermarket two expansion boards.
Option VA00384 gives you a total of four serial ports, four USB ports
Option VA00385 gives you a total of two serial ports, three USB ports, a second display port, second 10/100 LAN port and one composite video in port.
Smart Card Reader
An option on the 12.1" displays, adds a reader based on the Omnikey chipset. Supports 5V, 3V, 1.8V cards at up to 119kbps. Unknown if you can field upgrade a display. Appears to require a complete rear housing.

Re: MW810 Product Information
PJ, Question, I need the daughter board for the gps/wwan, when I run FCN5774A on MOL it gives me a description of: ASSY,PWA,MW800 PH III CPU RAD ADAPTOR BRD.
Does that sound right? Im hoping MOL just didn't do the description right.

Re: MW810 Product Information
That should be the right one. I believe I took that part number from the one I ordered way back when. The 8xx series of MW's still use the MW520 models numbers (F506/5217, 5208..etc)

Re: MW810 Product Information
ok, just for future reference, that is the correct part. Even parts id thought it was strange that the board was listed for the mw800. Now my next question, do you have the part number for the simcard tray?

Re: MW810 Product Information
Well, Parts ID finally figured out what I was talking about. The part number for the Sim Tray is 0102711K85.

Re: MW810 Product Information
And some more info..
I was successfully able to get a Gobi4000 MC7700 (ATT LTE) wwan card to work on my 1.2.
The card is from a Lenovo/thinkpad. The kicker is, you cant use the Lenovo drivers, have to download the drivers directly from sierra wireless. Once its installed, with the generic Sierra Wireless Watcher, it fired right up, read my SIM card and connected to the ATT network in LTE mode. On speedtest, I was getting 19mbs down and 4.5mbs up.

ccip4911, can you share or share where you got the gobi drivers?
Re: MW810 Product Information
Should this be updated for the newer MW810 R2.0 or does it deserve a new thread?

Does anyone have the r2.0 driver ISO disk they could share? I've searched and searched but can't come up with anything

Re: MW810 Product Information
Hi,
There was not an ISO made of the drivers and software of the R2.0.
The R2.0 Administration Guide at https://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us ... abresource says the following:
"Software Drivers
Generally, the drivers and the configuration utility are already pre-installed. If the drivers and
the tools have not yet been installed, you can find the install package in the Dustup folder of
the original MW810 operating system image."
Cheers, Tony

Re: MW810 Product Information
Curious if parts are still available for these or if I'm relegated to the eBay market.
This board was really helpful last time I had one of these things around (MW-520)
Probably going to run some form or linux/android x86 on it...
Like the 520, people just give me weird stuff like this 'cause they know I'll make it do useful things, lol.

Re: MW810 Product Information
Most of the parts for the 810 were hit or miss. Things like the heater and HDD flex were depot only parts.
The only way to know is attempt to order one via their support page (business online account) or via a full line Motorola dealer.

Re: MW810 Product Information
So what's the deal with the hard buttons on the monitor of this thing? I don't see them showing up as extended keys.
Going for a linux install this time around. Have everything working except the monitor mounted custom buttons.
also, does anyone have BIOS/Firmware packages? Wouldn't mind updating this thing either, still waiting for access again on moto's site

Re: MW810 Product Information
I just saw one recently with Win10 on it, so it must be possible. It was on an R2.0 and I don't know if it was a fresh install or if someone accidentally let the 'upgrade' from Win7 go through.
Re: MW810 Product Information
I was able to force Win7 (by putting the installation files directly on the SSD instead of via USB) then upgrade the R2.0 to Win10.gopher wrote:Has anyone tried loading windows 10 on a 810? Driver issues?
The downside is that I am unable to find any of the MW810 specific drivers, so I still have a few devices that have the wonderful yellow exclamation mark next to them (MW810 monitor, some serial ports and the GPS).
Re: MW810 Product Information
Any idea on being able to disable the hard drive heater via BIOS or other setting? It appears to error out on startup if it does not detect a heater.
Re: MW810 Product Information
No. It’s required.
