Batboard

I was able to convert my old 2 channel GP300 UHF radios to full 16 channel, but, when programming information into one, I get the power up tone, and then a low pitched beep. The radio, however, still functions as 16 channels, and I even got MDC-1200 into it. Question though: Am I wrecking the radio by hacking into it and adding channels and features that it never had to begin with (including scan) when I programmed a P94YPC20C2__ (16 channel) codeplug into an A series 2 channel radio?
