I have an MTVA which includes the built in VHF amp option. It appears to have crappy receive i.e signals sounds worse in the MTVA than they do on the portable outside of the console. Radio is checked out fine (MT2000) for rx sensitivity. It almost seems like the console is not properly shifting from the portable antenna to the console antenna and there for the antenna circuit is open which would explain the rf problem. Are their any known problems like this with the MTVA?

I doubt its the antenna ground as I have 7 NMO mounts in the roof. I personally installed them with great care. But its worth checking. I'll swap it to another antenna and see if that works.

I have seen the case were the acc plug on the portable was bad. The radio tested fine but when it was tested in MTVA it had terrible rx. We ended up finally tried a different portable and it work fine. I don't know if this applies to your situation but keep the acc jack on the portable in mind.

I have seen some Jedi radios which do not have the RF switch in them that switches between the internal antenna and external antenna. Although the radio is placed in the MTVA it wont use the external antennna.
