CPS / programming question

Post by kb0uxv »

Hello, I have v.13.00.01 of mobile and portable ASTRO 25 CPS used to program XTS/XTL series radios. Can the same ASTRO mobile CPS be used to program a MCS2000 conventional radio, or does it use a different version of CPS? Also, does anyone have a part number for a Motorola USB to MCS2000 cable?

Next question, when programming a 800 P25 consolette, which I believe has XTL5000 guts, can I plug into the deck for programming using the normal "round mic connector" USB cable, or do I need to get a Spectra style cable? What style connector for loading keys?

Thanks for your help, Nate "kb0uxv"

MCS2000 Uses Diffrent CPS. I have no info an an MCS2000 USB cable from motorola. Maybe E-bay.
The Consolette uses the XTL programming cable with the spectra mike style connector, the round connector one will not fit.
Keys are loaded in the same location

I got the USB cable from Motorola. For those interested, USB programming cable for Astro Spectra consolette is part # HKN6163B. Other numbers on the cable are: REV C W34Y07 VC: 0051372 JOB#84776. The USB side has another tag that lists WT2007.

The cable can also be used on mobiles too, it plugs into the block connector on the back of the radio deck.

I had a mobile that would not read from the regular mic USB cable for some unknown reason. This consolette cable allowed me to write to that mobile radio.

I have a Mid Power XTL5000 O3, and my regular HKN6183 has failed. I ordered the HKN6163B for the rear acc. connector, but it will not read the radio. The computer doesn't even seem to see the cable. Any ideas as to what I may be missing.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall a USB cable for the MCS2000 radio. I have built my own serial cable from the data on batlabs.
One point to bare in mind when trying to program the MCS2000, is that they are very sensitive to low voltage on the RIB. I
have also found that the Polaris RIB will not work to program the radio. You probably can read the radio, but it won't work in
the write mode.

This thread is getting confusing with multiple questions on multiple radios.

If your having an issue with programming XTL mobile radios, you need to start with a clean boot of the computer. Wait
until the computer has finished it's thing and settled down. Then start the CPS program for the Astro 25 mobiles. The
point I am going to make here is that some of the USB ports on a laptop are not all the same. Some laptop computers
will not run the Motorola software and interface with the programming cables on all the USB ports. Try another port.
Pay attention to which ports work and which ones do not. You should hear an audible indication when you connect to
the radio if the port will work or not.

This may not be your issue, but is one area that you need to be aware of.
