Hi there I just bought two maxtrac 900mhz but they are trunking and the conventional software does not read the codeplug. the trunking soft does read the plug but you can not change from trunking to conventional. Can any good soul tell me how to do it. I beleave I need a new code plug conventional 900mhz for a maxtrac of course I have D37MQA5GB2AK. If you please have a code plug please send it to blodwid at bellsouth.net

You need to replace the trunking firmware with conventional firmware. Further details can be found on the Repeater Builder web site.

I believe some of us defeat the purposse of posting an article. Converting motorola maxtrac to 900 mhz it is an easy task or at least that is what is posted. We as techs have a problem when it comes to writing, we always write for people who have done the conversion 10 or 20 times, also have the equipment needed to do the conversion, have motorola software and code plugs to change from trunking to conventional. So when we post an article, that is for us to know that you know how to do it or for us non technical people to learn how to do it ????????????.

4) Blank board using RSS.
5) Align radio.
6) Close radio.
7) Program radio.

Maxtracs suffer the same 'fate' as the GTX, they both need to be hexed in order to move the frequencies around, so simply swapping trunking firmware for conventional will not work.

The tuning end is easy, and those that understand how hex workshop works, and (where) to look, is the hurdle many have to jump over for the conversion
to work properly.

I feel lucky as I have conventional firmware in both of the 900 'Tracs I have, but many don't.

On the down side for me: There are not enough ops on 900 on my side of the mountain to make me build a machine, only to squawk my call every so often.

And the once working 900 machine on Pinal has been down for almost two years now while the fools that be are trying to cobble a broken antenna back together, instead of buying a new one to replace it.

What a waste.

I have done the MaxTrac conversion and I did not need to do any hex editing. I'm not sure what you needed to do via hex editing.

Hex editing is either an RSS hack, or necessity for Spectras.
