I bought a Spectra VHF Dash Off of Ebay D45KMA7JA7BK. I pulled the code plug and saved it. I made a change from Blank to a test freq of 140.5. When I pushed it back, i got the 'FL 01/82' . I am using R05.03.00. I have tried changing the serial number and re-installing the boards in the software, but this does not fix it. Any Ideas how to fix this?

I think a D45 is an 800M radio, not a VHF, and 01/82 means codeplug error. Reload your archive to see if it clears.

I've never had the Spectra cap syndrome cause codeplug errors. First time for everything I suppose. You can determine if caps are an issue by visual inspection of the command and rf boards. You weren't getting this error until you programmed it from a blank rather than editing the existing codeplug suggesting caps are not the cause. I'd reload the original codeplug.

Try programming it with a higher frequency, something in the 150MHz range, and see if it takes it ok.

What speed pc are you using? I know spectra rss was not as speed sensitive as some, but I did have an issue with one 1ghz Toshiba that would do the exact same thing to a spectra. Turning the cache off to slow it down fixed it. I have used my core 2 duo dell @ 1.8 ghz with no issues, but that one laptop was a problem the whole time I had it.

" it reboots almost too soon." This is normal as the RSS commands the radio to power OFF and then back ON after it reads the codeplug from the radio.

Was this radio actually a D43KMA7JA7BK? and why would you need to change the model number?

All I can say is that a FL 01/82 means that the codeplug in the radio is corrupt. The spectra does this by checking the checksum of the codeplug with an algorithm. So when the codeplug is written to the radio, something is not being written correctly. It could be numerous things.

What you should do is read the codeplug into the RSS. Then immediately after the radio restarts, write the codeplug. Don't exit screens on the RSS or change anything. Just read it, then write it again. This SHOULD fix the FL 01/82. I would get FL 01/82 after a bit bang, because since I changed a bit in the codeplug, the checksum changed and gave a FL 01/82. I would then read, then immediately write to have the RSS recompute the checksum with the new "value" for the bit i changed.

Also what firmware do you have on the radio? you are using quite an old version of the Spectra RSS. Maybe try to get a newer version? The latest as far as I know is 06.00.05. You could also try what batwings said, turn your Cache off. Personally, I have been able to read/write (with the newest RSS that is Processor speed independent) with the Cache off and on with a 1Ghz laptop.

Pretty sure you've got a VHF radio judging by the model number.

Unfortunately, the model number does not tell you which split you've got.

The 146-174Mhz split is more widely found then the 136-162Mhz split.

What does the original codeplug show you?

Not sure why've you played with the model or serial numbers though?

Fail 01/82 is a corrupt codeplug and you might have been able to just dump the original codeplug back in to correct the problem.

Put everything back the way you found it and dump the original codeplug back in.
