Motorola secure?

Motorola secure?
Here's the deal. I work in a G warehouse and we got these pretty low-grade Motorola 3000 radios, standard button set, no display, right from the sandbox. I read them, reporgrammed them, but they will not take the KVL key! Under secure in the Configuration page, there is no place to put the CKR number. I looked at the serial number to try and figure out if it had the secure board to take the key, but I couldn't figure it out. I took some 5000's that we have and tried to figure that out, but they were not consistent. Is there a way to figure out if a motorola has a secure capability from the serial number? Thanks for any and all info.

The flashcode will tell you... Run it in this site here: http://www.akardam.net/moto/tools/decode4.pl - you need Hardware Encryption as one of the options. You also need to check to see if the radios actually have encryption boards (UCMs) in them, this will require you to open the radios as far as I know. Finally, once you know you have the boards in the radios, you need to check the "Secure-enabled" box in the CPS...fractal wrote:Here's the deal. The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

Re: Motorola secure?
you shouldn't have to open the radios to see if they have UCM's installed, just put them in test mode by hitting the side button above the PTT five times within 10 seconds of powering them on. It should display the UCM version and algorithms.

He said they have no display.

You should probably be able to enable hardware encryption using the CPS along with the powerup self test alert.
If you get a good tone on powerup, you've got an encryption board.
If you get a boop, you don't have an encryption board.
