So what's the deal with these things? If I was to goto the // website & order the "programming kit" ($100) it wouldn't work? I have a standard RIB, but I've been hearing you need a special interface. Anyway's, what exactly do I need? Please feel free to e-mail me with answers.

You need both the programing stand (pager drops into this )/software kit as well as a "universal programming adapter".
The universal programming adapter is to pagers as the RIB is to radios.
It is an interface decive that connects to the computer and provides the required level shifting. The programer stand connects to the universal programming adapter via a 4 conductor curly cord.
Hope this helps.

You can build yourself a cheap Universal Programming Adapter using MAX232 chips from Maxim (call and get a free sample... they'll send you 2 chips). I don't have a site off hand that has the schematic, however, if you do some looking around, you can find it. I built one of these with a friend of mine this summer, and they work very well, even with the Minitor 3.
