is it possible to use the XTS5000 encryption modules in a XTS2500. I have one and dont want to damage the radio by installing it if it wont work. I have access to a keyloader.

No its not unfortunately. My understanding with the 2500 is that it is somehow built into the keypad board. Thats my understanding, someone may correct me however I do know for sure they are not interchangeable.

Now just for FYI they are interchangeable in the mobile series (XTL2500/XTL5000).

KB9KST is correct. The only way to get an XTS5000 UCM into an XTS2500 would be with a hammer. And then not even the people you want to hear will be able to decode it 8)
The 2500 series also has 3 different boards for encryption; for the non-keypad, limited keypad, and full keypad models. They do turn up for sale used occasionally, though not as often as the 5K's since once you pull them out you have to put a normal keypad back in for the radio to work at all.

Pretty clear that encryption was an afterthought for the 2500 series portables.

Ya. The boards for the XTS2500 are part of the keypad. The part numbers are PMLN4924 through PMLN4932 (goes, in order, AES, DES, ADP for each of model 1.5, model 2, model 3). They are very expensive (the DES board for model three lists around $835). You also need a key loader to use the hardware encryption boards. If software ADP meets your needs, it's far less expensive and far easier to manage.

I have a model 2 AES-256 board (PMLN4927) that I am listing on eBay soon. If you have any interest PM me.
