Hey guys,

So as the subject says I am connecting an external device to a mototrbo mobile radio. I am wondering about the alignment procedure.

I have done tons with analogue stuff, but this will be my first digital.

My questions are as follows:

I have a GD R8000 test set with mototrbo loaded on it

When i have my external device key the trbo radio and send a test tone what deviation measurement do I want to see (.75KHz? Deviation, I base that on the 6.25 channel spacing).

Also when I inject a test tone into the trbo radio to align my external device what deviation settings do I want from the audio out.

I guess I should mention that this setup is a mobile that will communicate with an xpr repeater on time slot 1.

Digital deviation doesn't change with audio applied to it. I cheat, as long as I'm assured the radio is aligned properly, I program an analog channel and set the deviation to that. Delete the analog channel and the audio should be real close on the digital channel.

I do it this way as well (don't have a TRBO analyzer, yet). Be sure to make it a 12.5 KHz analog channel, as that does affect needed levels. Also, I often find what sounds perfectly fine in analog isn't necessarily good in the TRBO world. Generally, things require less 'drive' in TRBO mode, so you're audio may sound muffled/garbled in TRBO until you back off on the audio input level compared to what you set if for in analog mode. Just an FYI.
